This rare Mercedes CLK GTR doesn’t have any existing CAD data that could assist Brigade in generating a 3D mesh.
It’s a common case where we want a high level of accuracy and will need to 3D scan the vehicle. The car is covered in hundreds of reflector-targets allowing the structured light from the hand-held scanner to determine subtle surfaces and spatial positioning. We break up the sections of the car into separate scenes in order to keep the files light enough to work with and fast enough to perform on the laptop we have on-site. Ultimately, Brigade created two assets, a high -poly version with shading performed in Substance Painter, and a low-poly version for real-time application within our 3d configurator. Our client leveraged the high-poly asset for NFT minting and the low poly version for meta-verse use.

Using a Peel 2, 3D scanner our team was able to obtain precise modeling data from this cars surfaces. Millions of data points are recorded into the software in realtime to generate a dense point cloud. These individual points are then processed to produce a mesh which will assist our 3d modelers in generating new, much cleaner meshes to work with real-time rendering applications.
— Modeling —
Brigade imported the point cloud data and base mesh prepared by Additive Restoration in order to guide the modeling process to clearly define the cars shapes and details. In order to achieve the highest quality model to generate an exact replica of the physical car the digital sculpting process can be time-consuming and very meticulous.
