— What we did —
Performance bedding company Bedgear worked with the advertising agency Madwell to create a new commercial in time for the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon. The Brigade created a key shot for the spot which proved too complicated to accomplish with practical special effects. Lead by VFX Supervisor Boaz Livny, the CGI team at Brigade remodeled a perfect match to the practical set used in the spot using Autodesk’s Maya 2018. We scanned and photographed the bedding products in order to create accurate digital replicas for the mattress, comforters, and sheeting all which have rather unique stitch patterns and textural details. Boaz then took the scene into Houdini for simulation work in order to create believable motion for the sheet and comforter as it was thrown up from the bed to float in midair. This process went through many iterations until the client felt like the motion appeared as if they actually shot it with a camera. A lot of attention was spent on detailed modeling and texturing in order to create photo-realistic renders for the final look.
