The challenge: A trend towards personalization
The days of standard options are over: In the past few months, the trend for electric commercial trucks has clearly shifted towards personalization. That makes it increasingly important for manufacturers of all-wheel-drive vehicles to give their customers a personalized customer experience—one that aligns with the particular product and brand. The Bollinger B4 Chassis Cab is an all-new, all-electric class 4 truck designed from the ground up to be custom-configured by fleets to fit their exact duty cycle needs, making the transition to electric as seamless as possible with minimal down time. As part of their marketing and sales strategy Bollinger Motors enlisted Brigade to develop a one of a kind 3D configurator to enhance the customer discovery experience, communicate the brand’s commitment to innovation, and addresses common concerns associated with electric vehicles.

The goal: Development of an immersive truck configurator
“Visual excellence that captivates customers” was the motto of the cooperation between Bollinger Motors and The Brigade. Their goal was to develop an immersive truck configurator—one capable of selling a rugged commercial truck that was not yet available on the market. In their work as a creative studio, Brigade has developed real-world expertise with WebGL and has also gained experience in using virtual configurators to drive sales. This was the perfect basis for their work with the up-and-coming commercial vehicle startup.
The implementation: WebGL and 3D visualization
How can a virtual model convince customers to buy? To generate a realistic version of the Bollinger Motors B4 truck, Brigade integrated the Sketchfab API into their project. The workflow uses 3D product data along with the configurator logic to render fully interactive 3D scenes in real-time. The best part? The scene doesn’t need to be pre-rendered. The webGL Engine, created by Sketchfab, makes it possible to automatically render high-resolution product images for every configuration with zero latency. As potential customers configure their personalized B4, the configurator delivers a live 3D experience on the fly—all on the basis of Amazons EC2 cloud computing services. This cost-effective solution allowed Bollinger Motors to create realistic product images of a truck that doesn’t actually exist yet—which sets a new milestone in the development of electrified commercial trucks.
